DELUGE IN DUNEDIN.

DUNEDIN, Last Night. At about 4 a.m. this morning. heavy rain, which had heen threatening for some hours, 'set _ in in earnest. At daylight it was still pouring steadily. Throughout the whole day the downpour continued monotonously. the only change in 18 hours being for the worse. At times the fall was torrential. At 7 p.m. to-xiight two inches of rain had fallen for the day. A cold wind made things doubly unpleasant. The inclement conditions caused the postponment or- abandonment of many sports fixtures. The only event which' was held in spite of the weather was the Port Chalmers regatta.
