5 HAMILTON, Last Night. Fifty directors, representing 19 different dairy companies operating in South Auckland, met by special invitation at a Hamilton conference to-day to consider the position of the dairy industry and the operations of the Control Board. The conference represented 9,900 tons of butter and 4.700 tons of cheese. The New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company was8n"ot on the invitation list although it represented ' 8,000 suppliers and 3,000 tons of dairy produce. The convenor (Mr A. J. Sinclair) said the attempts of those «responsible for the present dairy debacle to foist the blame on to other shoulders was arousing the anger of dairy farmers and the directors felt it was a time for plain speaking. He Said it was despicable to blame the Government for the present deplorable position. Th obstmaicy of a few extremists on Control Board had brought disaster to the industry in trying to carry out the impossible theory of compulsory marketing.' The following resolutions were passed by the meeting: >(1) "That this conference believes the first essential'in marketing in New Zealand. dairy produce is the maintenance of the confidence and goodwill in the chief market and that the extreme policy followed by the Dairy Produce Control Board' is directly responsible for the loss of good will and the heavy linancial loss now facing the industry"; (2) "That, as the chairman of the Control Board and London manager are now call$d upon to carry out a policy to which they are personally opposed, the should be asked to tender their resignations"; .(3) "That, this (conference re-affinns the protests previously made against the enforcement of compulsory provisions of the Dairy Produce Control Act, and denies the right of any body of men to take possession of our property hy force in order to embark upon a hazardous venture which has no precedent in any part of the world. Further, that a demand! be made upon the Dairy Produce Board to refrain from exercising the compulsory classes of the Act until next session, the New Zealand Board in the meantime to supervise marketing of our produce on the lines of the Australian Board"; (4) "That a Dominion Conference of dairy companies be eonvened immediately at'i Palmerston North to decide upon further action to give effect to the above resolutions." Mr Sinlclair said the Palmerston Conference would be called for the 29th inst, two days before the next meeting of the Board. The following mdtion by Mr G. F. DowdCn (Ta Aroha) was also carried: "That this conference deprecates the attitude of the Auckland Farmers' Union minority body in supporting the mistaken policy of the Dairy Control Board whose compulsory interference in connection with the marketing of the dairy produce has precipitated the present grave crisis and seriously jeopardised the welfare of the Dominion.
