THE MAYORALTY.

MR. McDIARMID UNDEC1DE0. I ' Little interest has so far beeii evinced hy ratepayers in the municipal elections which take place next month and it is douhtful, at this juncture whether electors wiM be called upon to exercise their votes as far as the mayoraltv is concerned. Mr FritK has faithfully presided over tlid destinies of the Council on two previous occasions, once when the term of ofiice was for one year and agairf when he was eleoted unopposed fod a period of two years imrnc-diatelv following his first twelve months of office. Two years ago Mr Frith op« posed Mr McDiannid- and was de« feated by a small margin. i The rumour tLat a genilemarii who had previously contested thd seat, had been asked to come forwardi this year, seems to be witliout foundation. i The- majority of the sitting coun'^ cillors are, it is understood, prepared to accept nomination for another two years and there is every indication that several other citizens will be .seeking an insight inta the administration of civic affairs- -
