The driver, a brutal-looking fellow, whipped and kicked tho horse, bub did nob attempt to frco tho poor animal from his oncumbormg harness. A crowd soon collected, but nobody offcrol any assistance Just then a woll-drcssod lady catno ftlong. Sho stood for a few minutes watching tho driver's brutali'y, then, pushing her wny through tho crowd, said to tho man, " Givo mo that whip!" The truckman, dazod by her imperious manner, obeyed. '• Now, ' sho sa d, "if you touch that horso again I shall lot you feel tint whip across your shoulders. Got down and cut tho harness, and help tho horso to got up." The driver stared at her " Get down this vciy ininuto," said tho lady, shaking tho whip in tho driver's f»co. Ho obiyod, loosi tied tho harness, and as soon as this was dono tho horso rose to its foet and was ready to go on its journey.
