In response to enquiries at the Lan<l and Income Tax Department as to sending in returns beforo or after the rc-valtiations made in cases where objections have been lodged tho Department atate that tho time will not be extended. A largo number of owners havo nlroady been informed that there it no necessity for awaiting the replies to tho objection before making returns. The reports from assessors »ro coming in, and the answers ivro going out as fast us possible, but tho Department think that in their own interests land holders should return csitmatcs of value whatever may be the result of tho objections. More objee tions have to be dealt with than was anticipated, and the assessors havo a difficult task to correctly gauge tho land values just now. One thousand of the returns are now coming in daily.
