ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Council of tlio above Society was held in the County Council Chambers yesterday, when thero were present : Dr de 1 autour (president, in the chair 1 , Singleton, O. Donniaon, Sinclair, Bruce, Aitken, Mackintosh, Glen, and Crawford (hon. sec). The minutes were read and confirmed. In reply to the President the secretary said ho had received no communication from the Borough Council regarding the bridge across the creek. Mr Aitken explained that the Com, oil could not reply till after its next meeting. The- President said he had gone over tho ground with the Grounds Committee of the Council and explained what, was wanted. The draft of the annual report was read and passed on tho motion of Mr Mackintosh, seconded by Mr Singlctou, for presentation to the annual meeting. On themotionof Mr Mackintosh, seconded by Mr Bruce, it was decided to supply the material for erecting a room to the Society's cottage. The question of who should be entitled to vote at the annual meeting was considered, and the President read the rules bearing on tho subject. Ho pointed out that the collection of members' subscriptions had boon left to Captain Crawford, but owiug to illness ho had boon unable to do so before tho end of the financial year. Theso subscriptions, however, could have been collected at uuy time, ttut foe that cause were not collected. A number of now members had paid their subscriptions since the expiration of the financial year, and the question was whether they should bo allowed to vote. He did not think they should, for the reason that it was against the rules. These members would be qualified to vote at next annual mooting, and that was all they were entitled to by the payment of their sub scriptions after tho proper date. The matter was discussed for some time, and it was eventually unanimously decided not to accept those new members who had paid their subscriptions since the ,31st of March as eligible to vote. This closed the Counoil meeting.
