OAMARU NAVAL ARTILLERY.
There was >» capital mu<-tor of the ab >ye company on Friday night, when the piizes won during iho pait season worn preserved to winners by Lw utenant-Colooel Sumpter, who opened the proceedings by presenting the N- avals with the trophy given by his Worship 'h<i Mayor to the battalion, and woo by the Navals after an interesting and closely c >nteited competition. In doing so, Lieutenant -Colonel Sompter referred in pleisintj terms to the saccess of the company. After the preetntitiun of tha pnz'B, thrre ringing cheen were given for Lieutenant-Colonel Sumpter and Mrs Sumpter, Lieuton^nt and Mis Mahsn, and the donors ot prize?. Colonel Sumpter also extended the thank-* of the roluntetrs to tha donors of prizes who hud helped to encouiage the volunteer mnTenient in the district. Couper, Saaman $l*Ccmbie, Seaman J. Turnbull; hornpipe, P.O. Rivers ; recitation, Seaman Wilson. Before breaking up, threo cheers were given for the lieut. -commandant and the lieutenants.
