TIMARU. April 29,
A. fire was discovered at 2.30 a m. in ft dwelling and shop of nine rooms bel >nging to Mr M'Ololland, baker, Staffordstreet. The owner, Mr Berosford, and a friend from Chris-church, wore sleeping in tho front, and wore in some danger of suffocation. The latter was a long fcimo in coming round, though he got out of the window himself, fho building waa complotely gu'ted and ruined. It was insint'd for L3OO, and the furniture for LlOO, intho Manchester oflico. Tin loaq is considerably more. Mr M'C'elland was leaving on a viwit to tho Old Country to-mr.rrow, and had packed up his clothes. All the.ie wore saved, as was also some furiiituro. Tho fire Bt»r:od in the storeroom, but no explanation is ftraihblo as to its origin.
