OAMARU HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday, there being present Messrs Holmes (chairman), Milne, IJarlmg, Allan, Denimon, Williams, Roso, Meek, Waddell, and Borrici The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, Tho manager of the Waihaorurga Estate wrote asking for tho loan of tho Board's boring rods. Tho Secretary fluid two lengths of the rods had been lost by Mr T. U. Denniaon, and they had now only 50 feet of lods. 1 1 -» as decided to write anil explain the state of tho rods. A Treasury note for L2G3 Ms 3d was received. Accounts amounting to LloO 15s Id were pas od for payment. Nothing had been done with regard to railway matters, but on Mr Cadman's arrival ho would bo interviewed on tho subject. The question, of valuation had also had to stand over. It was decided that tho valuators feo for tho 2U properties of tho Board bo 30 guineas, and that applications be called for the position of valuator. It was movci by Mr Dennison, and seconded by Mr Borrio, that the applieitions be dealt with by a committco of the whole- Board. Mr Waddell objected to members of the Board who were tenants of tho Board having any say in tho appointment of n valuator. If that were allowed tho tenants of the Board would havo tho appointment of tho Board's valuator and thou own also, and that would not bo fair to tho ratepayers, and ho moved in this direction. ivlr Wiliums seconded Mr Waddells amendment, saying that there would bo objection if the Board's tenants were allowed to decide. Mr Meek said the mot'on was a slur on the honesty of the tonauts of the Board, for ho did not think any member of tho IJoard would tako advantage of his position to hurt tho interests of tho Board. Mr Waddell disclaimed any intontion of casting a tlur on the tonanU of tho Board who hupponod to be mombera of the Board. Mr l>ennison'« motion was o&rried.
