WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The usual monthly mooting of the Board of Governors was held in the secretary's ofiico yesterday morning. There wore present Messrs Borrie (chairman), Sutherland, Waddell, Montagu, and Familton, The minutes of the previous mooting
wore read and confirmed. Mr John Harkness, M.A , Rector of the Waitaki Boys' High School, wroto offering board at the rate of L3O per Annum to boys who are : (1) Otago scholarship winners, (2) who havo gained 70 per cent of the last scholarship winner's marks, and (3) who shall gain a similar percentage in an equivalent examination. Tho offer to extend to not more tlun four boys at ono time, and the reduced rate to continuo dv ing th. ir school course. Ho did no* think it dosiriblo, under the present circumstincea, to attract boys from other districts who were not well advanced in their studies, beoauso they would interfcro with the progress of the other boys, which is now satisfactory. Tho Board rogarded Mr Haikneßs' oftYr ns a generous ono, and tho secretary w b instructed to wriio and thank him for the offer. Io was decided to advertise tho conditions in time to permit of local boys entering for the privileges mentioned. Tho reading of the draft loase and its consideration occupied tho attention of tho Board for some time. The Hon. S. E. Shrimski wrote enclosing cheque for LlOO, being amount already mentioned by him as collected from some eighteen subscribers as tho nucleus of " Tho Mncandrew Memorial Girls' Scholarship Fund." This sum is to bo invested in tho namcß of tho Chairman of tho Waitaki County Council and the Mayor of Oamaru for iho time being, and the interest handed to the Board to provide a girl's scholarship as may be though/ fit. It may bo that a short deed of trust should bo placed, bub this is left to the Boord to decide. It was resolved to writ© to Mr Shrimski thanking him for his exertions and liberality in connection with the school. It was decided to execute ashorbdeed of trust as indicated by Mr Shrimski's lottor. A letter from Mr H. B. Crawford, on behalf of Mr Cox, of Enfiold, was referred to tho Ohnirmin. Accounts amounting to L 92 6s 4d were passed for payment. The Board ihen roso.
