A meeting of this Committee took place yesterday morning in the County Council Chamber. Present — Messrs Steward (chair), Reid, Menlove, Gibb«, Evans, M'Leod and Sump tor (Hon. Soc.) The minutes of lost meeting having been road and considered, the WaiarokaLivingstone Sub-Committee appointed thereat reportodos follows :~r Your Committee bog" to report that they have visited the proposed route of the Waiareka-Livingstono railway from Windsor Station, and also a possible route from Teaneraki, boing tho route laid down by the flying survoy of Messrs Thornton and Bull. They find that it will be qttito practicable to make the line by cither route, tho distanco from Windsor being approximately 1 6 miles ; and from Tcanoraki 23 miles. They have reason to believe that it will be quite practicable aho to mako the lino from Ngapara to Livingstono, a distanco of about 12 miles only, though this would probably involve somewhat heavy grades for tho first two or threo miles, or possibly a short tunnel. They do not feel able to recommend definitely aa to which of tho routes should bo adopted until a proper survey has been made, and tho Engineer's report obtained ; and referring to the promiso of the Governmont to cause a survoy to bo mado next session, recommend that the Chairman he instructed to tctograph, asking that tho surveyors employod may bo instructed to survey all threo routes and report as to the approximate cost of oaoh ; and asking when the survey will bo commenced. • Tho acreage of land opened up by the throe several routos is approximately estimated as follows, viz, t Toaneiuki-Living-stone, (50,000 acres : Windsor-Livingstone, 40,000 aero* ; Ngapara-Livingatono, 40,000 acres. The report wni adopted. The time for bringing up the report of the Bub*Coinmittce re the Kurow extension was extended until the next meeting. The name of Mr James Leo* was ndded to the Qviu-rnl Committee. It was decided to send the following telegram to the Hon. the Minister foi Public Works :— Oamaru, May 13, 1878.
