RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Monday, 12th May. (Before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M.) ALLOWING A COW TO WANDER ON THE RAILWAY LINE.
Edward Hogan was ohargod with unlawfully allowing a cow to wander on tho railway line, between Oamaru and tho Awamoko Junction, the said railway boing there fenced on both sides, contrary to section 28 of tho New Zealand Railway Bye-laws published in the Now Zealand Gazette, of the 23rd November, 1876. After hearing evidence His Worship inflicted a fine of 40s reducing tho penalty to that sum as tho case was the i first of its kind hoard hero.
NEGLECTING TO COMPLY WITH XN ORDER OP THB COUUT. William Hutchins was charged on warrant with having neglected to comply with an Order of the Court calling upon him to provide for the support of his wife. Sub-Inspector Smith prosecute*!, and the accused admitted tho charge. His Worship romandod tho aocusod till Thursday next.
