LARGE FIND OF 480 OUNCES AT THE WALAMARINA.
The mining operations progress very favorable in the river; the me.i are all at work in the different claims, and they work in earnest, determined to know the best and worst of it. A continuance of dry weather for ten days more will be sufficient to prove all their claims. One party between Mount Camp and Wilson's Beach took out 40 pounds weight (480 ounces) of gold in two days. The new rush a mile and a-half above Canvas Town looks very well, although the lead of gold is very narrow and patchy. The party who hold the prospecting claim hare lost the lead in the Terrace. They are striving to discover it, and may fall on it soon. There is a new rush half-a-mile below Canvas Town, nearer HavelocI:. The prospects got are reported as very good. The West Coast is making great drains on the population. — Wellington Independent.
