The Electric, barque, which, arrived litsre last night from San Fiancisco, brings news fiom the seat of war in America to the 21st of October. She left Sun Francisco on the 22nd of October, with a cargo of lumber for Sydney,

Mr amd Mrs Kean had arrived in good health at San Francisco. They commenced their theatiical campaign under very favourable auspices with the peifomance of "Louis the Eleventh," on which occasion the house was ciowded to suffocation, and the unprecedented sum of 1900 dollars was taken at the do^rs. New York, 21st Oct. The repoit, which was received by late telegram by the mail sieamer, that Atlanta had been leeaptmred by the Confederates is not true. The main army of the Confederates was, at the latest date, in Missouri, marching towards Kansas. Federal General Sherman defeated General Hood (who was reported to hayo lccaptured Atlanta) at Allatoona. Genera Early's corps .attempted to obtain possession of the Orange and Alexandiia laihoad, which connects the Central and the Richmond railways, but failed. A coloured regiment, wider flag, suriendeied at Dnilton without lesi&tance. General Beauregard, it is reported, has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the aimy on the Mississippi. General Hood, after having been defeated by Sherman, was retreating towards Somerville. On the 19 th of October a severe battle was fought at Cadars Creek, the final result being in favour of the Fedeials.
