The Australian Mav mails wore delivered on tko 18th via Southampton, oil the 14th via Maiseilles. The Queou is at O&borne. Her Majosty's health is good. The levenue returns for tho quarter ended June 30, show a decieaso of £690,902 on the year, and a decrease of £210,004 on the quaiter. The Ministerial whitebait dinner was held onSatuiday lust at Gieenwieh. The session would close on the 28th. The chief Pailiamentary event of the moi.th was tho great trial of stiength between the Ministiy and the Opposition. On the 4th Mi Disiaeli moved an addi ess to i lie Queen, expressing regiet at the faihue of the Confeience and the opinion that the touise pursued by the Government had lowered the ju&t influence of England in the councils of Em ope, and had thoieby diminished the security foi peace. Mi Kinglako moved an amendment, expressing the satisfaction of the House that her jfajesty had been advised to abstain fiom wai. The debate lasted till Friday, when Mi Disiaeli's address was l ejected by a niajoiity of eighteen, tho numbeis being 295 to 313. Mi Kinglake's amendment was, therefoi e, can ied. In the House of Louis on the 8fh July, the fame vote of censure was moved .and earned by .i majonty of 9. On the 14th the second reading of the New Zealand Loan Bill was can ied by 92 to 55. It was passed on the 25th. On tho 7th, n fiie broke out in the Mavoy Church, in the Stiand, lesulting in the total destiuction of that edifice The walls only are left standing The Queen has declaied hei intention to lestoie tho building at her own expense. Tho Wimbledon Rifle Meeting commenced on the 11th and continued until the 2°>id The Queen's pnze was won by Wyatt, of the City of Loudou Utfcade. Gieat excitement was rieated thioughoufc the countiy by a murder committed on the night of the 9th July, in a l.ulway caniage. Mr Biiggs, chief cleik at Messis Roberts and Co ':■>, the bankets, while travelling on the Noith London Railway, between Fenchurch-street and Hackney, wa& lobbed, bin tally lll-u&cd, and thiown out of the caniage on to the line. He died ne\t night. The muideiei is believed to be a Gennan tailoi, who has since sailed foi America. Detectives have emb.uked in a steamer in put suit, and are expected to reach New Yoik befoie the assassin. A great deputation waited on the Postmaster-Geneial on tho 14th, to piotest against the inci eased lates of postage to Austialia. Another deputation went to Mr Gladstone on the same subject on the 18th It is undoistood that, in consequence no inciease will be made. The death of the Rev. J. W. Whitesido, LL.D., vicar of Scarborough, i» announced The lev gentleman had been i.i failing health for seveial months. Di Whiteside was 58 years of age. Mr. George Lance, the celebrated flower and fruit painter, aged C2.
