Dunedin Live Stock Market.
Driver Mac Lean and co. Report.
18th April 1864 :- Transactions m
Stock during the past month have been
rather limited, being to great extent
confirmed to small lots for town con-
-sumption.The Extreme dullness cau-
-ed by the appearance of pleuro pneu-
monia among a few herds of cattle m
the early part of the year is fast wea-
ring off and we are now able to re-
-port the market m a more healthy
state and inclination on the part of
capitalists to invest as well be seen
by refernce to our report of the station
properties.The importation of cattle
being entirely stopped, we must de-
-pend upon our own resources for a
time and that we shall required all
and more than the Province can pro-
-duce there is little doubt. The following
shipments have arrived during the past
month:- Sheep cattle
Island city from Western Port 350.180
City of Hobart do Melboroune 500 -
Zephyr do Wanganui 250 pigs - -
Rangatira do Wellington 300 19

City of Hobort do Melbourne 150 – pigs
City of New castle do New castle 130 150
Fat stock- The market has been
fairly supplied with cattle of ordinary
quality and prices obtained show a
gradual improvement and we anti-
-cipate that cattle of good quality
will be m achive demand through
out the winter. Sales of various lots
at our yards realized from £lb to £23
10s, we quote to prime quality beef at about
60 s per 100lbs. Fat calves are m good
demand, at from £4 to £6.105. according
to size and quality our sales avera-
-ging £5 each.
fat sheep –The market is quite
bare of good quality melon and
higher prices have lately been ob-
tamed for small lots .We have sold
several lots at from 35s to 40s bd or
Equal to 8d to B½d per lb. We cannot
expect these prices to last as we know
of several lots near town. We how-
-ever, think that good quality mcl
-ton will maintain fair value
for some time to come. Sales have
been made deliverable on Station,
at 6d to 6½d per lb.
Store stock –cattel are more inquir-
-ed after and we anticipated a good
demand are long. Holders will not
submit to any material reducation
from prices obtained before the ap-
-perance of pleure- pneumonia
as it is Evident that we shall required
all the Province can produce and
the fear of disease has been much
lessened by the effects of inocula-
-tion. Sheep –The late importati
-ons are now nearly worked off
with but few expected to arrive and
holders of provincial stock are not
disposed to sell at prices satisfact-
Tory to buyers. We quote-Import

Horses. (as furnished by messrs Milner
and Learmonth). – Since our Last
report of the 4th inst, trade has been
much brisker, and the damand has
considerably exceeded the supply,
Especially for good heavy draught
stock, mainly attributable to rivers
up country going down and supplies
of goods on the mining districts being
scarce, and as a consequence ear-
-nage has considerably advanced
therefore causing a much greater
inquiry after the above class of stock
are really good heavy draughts;
and we imagine should a shipment
of this description come to hand
they would command prices that
would leave a good margin to the
importer.During the past fort-
-night we have sold 97 horses, con-
-sisting of heavy draughts and use-
-ful weight carrying hacks .We
quote sales and as follows:- First class
heavy draughts from £5 to £ 85;
