WHANGAROA COUNTY.
Personal Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hayes, of Kaeo, left for Auckland this morning. Mrs. H. W. Salmon and family, of Rawene, are spending a holiday in Kaeo. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Hayes returned on Saturday from a holiday spent in Dargaville. Mr. J. Ormond, of Rotorua, and Mr. L A. Needham, of Taihape. are the guests of Mrs. W. Donaldson, of Waihuku, for a few days’ shooting. Miss Martha Hayes returned last Tuesday from Nelson, where she has been spending a holiday. On Saturday morning Miss Hayes left for Dargaville where she is taking up a new position Building Activities Work has been commenced on clearing the site for the new court house and dwelling, which is being erected at Kaeo. The building of a new store and dwelling in the main street of Kaeo has been commenced. The store, which is for Cooper Value Co , is being built by Mr. W. Roberts, of Kerikeri. * * * * Miss Hayes Farewelled A farewell evening was given to Miss Martha Hayes by the members of the Kaeo Methodist church, the Bible Class and the Sunday school. A large attendance of some sixty odd friends assembled to wish ner every success in her new position. Miss Hayes who is to take up a position with Wallace Supplies Stores at Dargaville was presented with a handsome travelling rug. * * * * Sunshine Club Affairs The usual club night last week was well attended and many table tennis challenge matches were played The results were as follows : Miss Edwards defeated Mrs. Wa'oisley. 21-16 21-10 ; Miss Edwards defeated Mis ; King, 21-8 21-13 ; Miss King defeated Mrs. Walmsely, 21-9 21-11 : T. King defeated B. Ratcliffe, 21-14 21-17 ; E. Bateup defeated J. Edwards 22-20 11-21 25-23 ; F. Smith defeated E. Walmsley, 21-12 21-16 ; B. Ratcliffe defeated T. King, 21-8 20-22 21-17; L. Shepherd defeated F. Smith, 21-23 2116 21-17 ; K. Boyd defeated E. I Walmsley, 19-21 22-20 21-17 ; Mrs. Walmsley defeated Miss Maeken, 2220 21-16. Members and friends spent an enjoyable time at the club’s usual social evening this week. Winners of the ladies’ doubles were Mrs. Holder and Miss Murray ; men’s doubles, D. King and S. Taniora ; and combines. Miss Phillips and D. King. The club held a committee meeting on Tuesday evening. It was deemed to hold the dance pi’oposed for Coronation night, May 12th Arrangements for this dance were discussed.
