Launching a Schooner.
An interesting event took place at Totara on Monday last, f this being the launching of a fine three-masie<sschooner of 180 tons, built- by Messrs. Lane and Sons to the order of Captain Skinner. The vessel’s dimensions are:—Length 102 foot, beam 24 feet, and depth 9 feet. She is to .be calicd the “ Kaeo,” and will he engaged in the East Coast trade. She 'is to bemitted with two 30 h.p. “'King ” engines, imported from U.S.A. bylMessrs. Hare Bros., of Kaeo, agents in New Zealand for this type of engine. The vessel was launched without a hitch, and was named by Miss Florence Hare. This is the seventh vessel supplied by Messrs. Lane and Sons to Captain Skinner, who by his enterprise and perseverance has built up a considerable freight trade between Auckland and East Coast ports. One of these vessels (the “ Aotea”) was the first vessel on the New Zealand coast to use oil engines as an auxiliary power.
