NOTICE. We havo received a letter from Mr. Maibek, addressed to Mr. C. Elliott, with a request that it might be printed aa an advertisement ; but the writer has mistaken the character of this journal in supposing that its columns would be suflered to be disgraced by the publication of a coarse, vulgar, personal attack on private character. With respect to tho attempted justification of tho calumnious report circulated by Mr. Maiben, regarding the late election, that portion of his letter, we have been requested to state, will be answered in tho Examiner on Wednesday next. To the curious who may wish to see Mr. Maiben's letter, we beg to invite their perusal of it at our office. Mr. D. Jennings' letter is unavoidably postponed till our next.

Provincial Secretary's Office, Nelson, November 9, 1855. HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified for general information, that Writs for the election of Members of the Provincial Councillor the under-mentioned districts in the Province of Nelson, having been issued, in accordance with the provisions of an Act of the Imperial Parliament, intituled " An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand," and of an Act of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said province, intituled " An Ordinance to increase the number of Members of the Provincial Council, and to alter the Electoral Districts of the Province of Nelson, Session 11., No. 7," the Returning Officers for the said several districts have returned the said Writs, with certificates to the effect that the undermentioned gentlemen have been duly elected to serve as members of the said Provincial Council, for the said several districts,; vix. :— For the Town of Nelson— - z ,; - John Poynter ; ;, For the Motueka District — ; Thomas Jacka.
