IMPORTANT TO MARINERS.

Sunken Rocks. — Opposite the Red Bluff on the eastern side of the harbour of Port Phil-, lip, there is a sunken rock, with eight feet of water above it at three-quarter flood. Its situation is about two miles W. by S. from the Red Cliffs, with deep water close to the edge of the rock. Off Sea Elephant Island, in Bass's Straits, about four miles, there is a rock visible at low water, but covered at high water. The body of the island bears by compass from the rock N.N.E. At half tide it is visible above water to the size of a whale-boat. 1 he rock off the west end of King's Island, Bass's Straits, some account of which was formerly published in the Melbourne papers, lies in 39deg. slmin., instead of 40deg. 9min., as was formerly stated. This error in the published account (which might lead to serious consequences) escaped Captain Lewis's attention at the time it appeared, in consequence of his absence at the heads. — Port Phillip Patriot.

A lighthouse, to bear the name " light of al Nations/ will Boon be erected on the northeast end of Goodwin Sands, which will mark and render accessible a channel hitherto dosed, leading from the North Sea into a large bay within the sande, where ships may anchor quite sheltered in all weathers, in thirty or forty fleet depth of water. — Colonial Gazette, September 15, 1841.
