FIRE-FIGHTING EXPERT’S REPORT
: NOW IN HANDS OF GOVERNMENT It was announced by the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser), in the House of Representatives yesterday that a comprehen- ; sive report from Mr A. D. Wilson, the j fire-fighting expert from Britain, was I now in the hands of the Government ; but that it was impossible to state at {this juncture when the final dectfcio.i i could be given on the report. The Prune Minister was replying to an urgent question by Mr J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour. Grey Lynn), oil behalf of the Member for Napier. Mr W. E. Barnard. Mr Lee said that the local E.P.S. executives were anxious for information and direction. The Prime Minister said that the re port dealt extensively with matters of policy, control, personnel, training and equipment m respect to fire-fighting services for war emergency. The final decision on the report depended largely on what questions arose in the discussions that must take place between th° interested bodies. The importance of the matter in connection with the civil defence of the Dominion was fully appreciated and it would have attention accordingly having regard to other problem? relating to war effort.
