TRIAL FOR CUP Melbourne, Oct. 20. After a poor display in the Caulfield Stakes. Velocity heartened hi? Cup admirers by a brilliant trial of ten furlongs in 2.115. at Mentone to-day. He will be ridden in the Cup by O. Phillips. Trainer Ron Cameron overcame the difficulty of a lightweight rider, securing the release of C. Sanderson from a prio engagement to pilot Watchguard. El Golea moved scratchily working to-day. Skipton did a mile in 1,49. but its Cup supporters are a little anxious as the horse has not been seriously tried since the Stand Handicap win. Trainer Fryer gave an assurance that Skipton is better than at any time of his career.—P.A.
