l | MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Murchison County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Mr E. M. Brown, county chairman, presiding. Other councillors present were Messrs F. H. Newman, T. O. Morel. J. B. Milligan, A. Burt, and B. C. Spiers. Accounts totalling £760 14s lid were passed for payment. J The Electrical Engineer. Mr T. B. It was decided that a conference for j the advancement of the Nelson-Marl-i borough provinces be held in the NelI son City Council Chambers at 1C a.m. on 27th November CORRESPONDENCE A letter was received from the Waij kato Hospital Board on the subject of hospital taxation, asking the council to I communicate with the Minister of Health requesting that a substantial j payment be made from the Social Security Fund to reduce the burden of hospital taxation on the ratepayers. This was I a" ed to. As the result of a letter from the ; Cawlhron Institute, it was decided that gorse and broom should be declared noxious weeds in the Murchison i County. The matter was discussed, and it was decided that the council considered it not desirable that councils be daciared ! essential. The appointment of two local body j representatives for the Nelson Goods ! Transport Control Committee was referred to by the Nelson City Council. Dr. S. A. Gibbs and Mr L. A HigI gin.- were suggested as representatives. ; Dr. W. J. McTavish forwarded his 1 resignation as local medical officer as : from the end of October, and also conj firmed his resignation after discussion : i with the council. and with regard to general hosiptal affairs. REFERRED TO THE ENGINEER Councillor Morel asked that Boland's ford. Mangles road be attended to. and that the Engineer confer with Mr D. W. Oxnam with regard to the Mole road. Councillor Milligan asked that the Soldiers’ Memorial Ground receive attention with a view to eliminating grass grub. Councillor Spiers asked that the road on the west bank of the Mataki river receive attention. The above matters were referred to the Engineer for attention.
