LARGE ENEMY FORCE LANDED WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 The Navy Department announced that «*• uiirge enemy force landed at Gaudalcanar Ayith artillery and is now shelling American positions. The Navy also announced that a large concentration of enemy ships was discovered near Shortland Islands 259 miles north-westward of Guadealnar. The Navy disclosed that American motor torpedo-boats are operating in the Solomons area.—P.A.
