FIGHTING SERVICES BALL

FUNCTION AT COLLINGWOOD A large number of residents from Collingwood and the surrounding district gathered in tl.e Star Theatre. Collingwood. to attend a ball given by the Combined Services. Many visitors were present from the Takaka district. Arum lilies and greenery were used in as effective decorative scheme. Dance music was supplied by iteynish’s de Luxe orchestra. Mrs F. Lewis of Takaka played extras. Trooper Gales was M.C. The excellent floor and tasty supper provided by ladies of the Collingwood district were features that helped to make the function one of the best held in the district for some time. Thanks are due to the following ladies who helped in arrangements: Mesdames C. Allan. L. Diamond, J. Morris, L. Wells, Misses J. Brown, M. and H. Graham, ahd G. Solly, with special thanks to Mrs G. Allan. J. Morris, and Miss M. Graham for the decoration of the theatre. The following were the winners of prizes: Monte Carlo < l), Mrs C. P. Reilly and Mr P. Reilly; (2) Miss G. Solly and A.C.2 N. Rowe. Lucky Spot waltzes < 1 > Miss D. Graham and Mr B. Manson, (2) Miss Benvin and Mr Dunne. Half of the proceeds was donated to the Patriotic Fund, while the other half was divided between the FightingServices. The thanks of those responsible for the ball are due to all who helped to make it such a financial and social success.
