MOTUEKA PATRIOTIC SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Motueka Patriotic Society held kist evening was attended by the Mayor (Mr W. J. Eginton), chairman, Messrs A. C- Barr, H. B. McGlashen, A. F. Webley, B. V Warren, A L. Kirk and Mesdames W. M. Thomas, L. Invvood, H. Stringer, and L- Cowin. The secretary of the Motueka A. and P. Association wrote stating that it had been the practice of the Association to allow the Patriotic Committee free use of its crockery,* an offer which still stood good, but owing to the number of breakages which were inevitable it was necessary to make a charge to reimburse the Association for loss. An account for £1 was enclosedThe chairman pointed out that as the A. and P. Association depended largely on the public for support he took the view that it would only be a small gesture on its part to grant free use of its crockery for patriotic functions. He understood that all breakages in the past had been paid for by the society. It was decided that the society thank the A. and P. Association for its patriotic gesture in allowing the society the use of crockery free, and point out that all breakages had been paid for and would continue to be paid for in the future. As the Association had adopted the practice cf allowing the free use of its crockery it was hoped that in view of the purposes for which the society was working the account for £1 would be withdrawn. The Mayor intimated that the National Council for Reclamation of Waste Materials had requested the Borough Council to set up a committee for the purpose of dealing with the collection arid disposal of waste rubber, paper and rags- Mr Eginton stated that as the proceeds from the sale of such materials were devoted to patriotic purposes it was thought that the Patriotic Society should be represented on this committee. The following resolution had, the Mayor said, been passed by the Council: "That the Council’s two representatives on the Patriotic Society be the nucleus of a Waste Collection Committee and that they confer with members of the PatrioticSociety with a view to the formation of such a committee.'’
