BARNARDO BOX OPENING

I lam going to tell you about the I Dr. Barnardo box opening which was 'on the 3rd of October. It started at | 2 o clock at Mrs O’Brien’s residence at Belgrove. Mrs Berry, who is our patron, organised quite a lot of games. There was a merry-go-round which was made out of the axle of a chaff-cutter, a swing on a chestnut tree and a game of shooting an apple off William Tells head with a bow and arrow. Wililam Tell was a golliwog dressed up and the one who knocked the apple off had it. Besides that Mrs Berry had Barnardo trees growing in the orchard. That is, she hid money in the trees and those who got it put it in their boxes. After that we had tea and when we had finished we had box opening which was a great success as we raised £5 6s 1 for the children in the homes in London. —Margaret McConchie, Fo.xhill.
