WAIMEA BOARD MONTHLY MEETING AT RICHMOND Tlie monthly meeting of the Waimea Electric Power Board was held at Richmond, to-day. the chairman, Mr H. E. Stephens, presiding. Board members present were: Messrs P. B. Caldcr, C. B. Webby. J. Pugh, L. A, Higgins, J. Logan and W. Max. Accounts amounting to £5.754 15s Id were passed for payment. The board received a letter from the ' 1 Murchison County Council stating that j a large proportion of local bodies who had been written to regarding the proposal to convene a conference to discuss proposals for the advancement of the Nelson and Marlborough provinces, had been in favour of such a conference. Arrangements were, therefore, proceeding to arrange the conference at a place and time to be notified later. ENGINEER’S REPORT The Engineer, Mr N. A. Andrews, reported for September as follows: — Headworks: There has been a sufficient supply of water in both the Waimea and Brooklyn rivers to maintain the output from the hydro stations at a high level. No floods have occurred during the month. A bulldozer was employed for several hours to divert the flow of water from the upper station into the headrace of the lower station. Supply Operations: The units required for the month as compared with the same month last year are as follows: — Brooklyn, 152.090 (167,430); Motueka Diesel 716 (603); Waimea plants, 102.154 (97,696): Stoke plant, 130,650 (122,640); total required 385.610 (388,369 ). Sold N.C.C.. 860. Two short interruptions occurred with the supply of power in the Motueka area, caused by overloading of feeder switches during a period when the P.W.D. line was not being used. Installations and Connections: New connections in the whole area during the month and totals to date are: Consumers 7, total 3309; services. 10; additions, 16: ranges 2. total 449; waterheaters 1 .total 312; motors 8. total 1919; connected load. 36 k.w, total 14.296 k.w. l _’ 8 A number of ranges and other appliances purchased by consumers are still held up in the board’s store on account of the shortage of registered wiremen. On the 24th of the month a control ■ notice was gazetted prohibiting the issue of wiring permits under certain conditions, the purpose of the notice being to ensure that existing stocks of wires, cables, fittings and appilances are used only for essential purposes. Certain discretionary powers are given to supply authorities regarding the issue of permits, and applications are to be referred to the Building Controller where there is any doubt of their es- j sentiality or scope.
