URUWHENUA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
At the monthly meeting of the Uruwhenua Women’s Institute held at the Uruwhenua Hall Mrs Rogers presided over a fair attendance of members and one visitor. A birthday posy was presented to Miss Lindsay. The roll call, -An easy tea dish on W.I. day.'' was very well answered The competition for' specimen flower, judged by Mesdames Price and Godman, was won by Mrs Rosser snr with Mrs N. A. Barnett second and Miss Rosser third. The monthly competition, floating bowl resulted: Miss Lindsay 1. Mrs A. F. Barnett and Mrs N. Barnett equal 2. Mrs R. Simpson 3. During the afternoon. Mrs Rogers presented Mrs Kerr with a bouquet in
appreciation of her work at the recent flower show. i Two letters were read from Miss Tomlinson regarding soldiers’ knitting which had been done by members. The {forthcoming council meeting was dis- | cussed and Mrs Price was chosen as ! delegate in place of Mrs Kerr who is(unable to attend. It was decided that £2 be sent as a donation to the Nelson (Federation. The secretary was authorised to write a letter of thanks to Mr Hailes for donation of sheep. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Price and Miss Brenkley for a case of apples which they purchased and distributed to the children at the flower show. Each member contributed towards Christmas cakes to be sent to 3 local boys serving with the forces in the Middle East. The hostesses, Mrs Rosser snr and Miss ' Russ served a very enjoyable afternoon tea which the meeting was broughl 1 to a close with the singing of the Na- , tional Anthem.
