HIAWATHA TENNIS CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD Mr W. Haase presided over only a fair attendance of members at the an- | nual meeting of the Hiawatha Tennis Club, Takaka. It was considered from the many apologies received and from the number of new members that the membership would be up to last year’? standard. The secretary's report showed that the season just past had been a most successful and encouraging one—encouraging because of the large number of junior players and successful because interest had been maintained up to the end of the season. A series of challenge matches had encouraged keenness especially among the ladies who derived much pleasure from the competition. During the season matches had been played for the Hudson and the Anderson Cup. Mrs L. Winter won the Bourne Cup. The secretary (Mr H. A. Eves) presented the balance sheet which revealed that the financial position of the club was sound. The election of Club officials resulted as follows: Patron, Mr R. Everett; president, Mr W. Haase; vice president, Mr K. Wadsworth; secretary. Mr H. A. Eves: treasurer. Mr K. Wadsworth, committee. Mr N. Bensemann, Mrs Eves. Miss Bensemann with power to add. It was decided that the opening day would be held on Labour Day, and the grounds would be cleaned up before that date. Afternoon tea is to be dispensed as before on club days. Mainly because of the difficulty in obtaining balls it was thought that the season might be short.
