MEETING j £17,500 RAISED IN THE CITY I The final meeting of the Nelson City Patriotic Committee lor the financial year just ended was held last evening and the following members were present : Mr A. FI. Crawley (in the chair), Mrs H. Atmore. Messrs E. N. Ford, C. A. Hamilton J. B. Carr, ,J. G Ingram, A. B. Kidson. C. C. Challies, J. A Harley and F. V. Powell (hon. secretary). An apology was received from Miss Hunter Brown. PATRIOTIC SHOP Since the previous meeting oi the committee, a number of most successful days have been held at the Patriotic Shop. The last three Thursday* had realised a total of 11482 5s 1 lei The individual amounts were. Nelson Women's Club £277. Nurses' Association £l3B 6s lid. anc the P.W.D Ladies' Committee £66 19s. It was decided to write and congratulate each organisation on the splendid results. To-morrow will also be a red letter day at the shop, as the boys of the College are leaving no stone unturned to make their effort an outstanding one. At present there is a very fine window display at Buxtons Limited of some of the goods that will be offered. FUNCTIONS Letters of congratulation are ai.-o to be sent to the Horticultural Society on the result of Daffodil Day, when over £B9 was collected, to the Combined Swimming Clubs on their recent effort which brought in £llß, and to those responsible for the recent production of the "School by the Pond." which netted £62. GENERAL The application from the Appleby Committee to hold a Paddy's Market in town during December was approved It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the committee on Tuesday. 10th November, in the City Council Chambers, when members of the public will be invited to attend. Before the meeting concluded the chairman thanked the members for their help and assistance during the year just completed, when the amount of £15,000, which had been aimed for as the city’s contribution, had been over-subscribed by a generous public to the extent of £2500. making a grand total of £17,500 for the year’s work. It was a wonderful effort, said Mr Crawley, and the public had rev bonded in a truly remarkable way. As a reminder of the occasion Mr Crawley then asked each member of the committee to accept as a personal memento from himself, a small gift suitably inscribed. All present thanked Mr Crawley for his kindly thought and many tributes were paid to the wonderful success he had made of the patriotic effort during the whole of the time he had been chairman of the committee.
