HEAVY FIGHTING
GERMANS THROWN BACK
ATTACKING FORCE WIPED OUT RUSSIAN WITHDRAWAL SOUTH OF KRASNODAR (Rec. 9.45 a.m.) Rugby, Sept. 2. Heavy fighting north-west and south-west of Stalingrad is reported from Soviet headquarters. The enemy to the north-west has been thrown back to his starting point. The Russians have consolidated their new positions to the southwest and wiped out the attacking enemy. A withdrawal south of Krasnodar is reported. This is presumably from a seaport claimed by the enemy.—B.O.W.
