OUTER SUBURBS UNDER FIRE
POSITION NOW MOST SERIOUS (Rec. 1.40 p.m.) London, Sept. 2. The position at Stalingrad is now described as most serious. Unconfirmed reports state that outer suburbs are under shellfire and that the Germans north of Stalingrad have reached the Volga bank, upon which bitter fighting is raging.—P.A.
