WAKAPUAKA W.D.F.U.

The August meeting of the Waka ; punka W.D.F.U. was held in the Foresters’ Hall, when there was a fair attendance of members. Mrs J. Corder. president, presided. Several apologies were received. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mesdames S. Strip i ger and N. Thompson whose son and husband respectively, have been reported missing; with Mrs E. C. Cummings (a former member) whose son is reported wounded, and with Mrs R--1 C. Withers, whose husband is very ill. J It is hoped that more satisfactory and ! comforting news will be received shortly. Members were requested to : bring articles for the Leper appeal in October. The September meeting is to take the form of an open afternoon and special effort will be made to raise funds for patriotic purposes. There will be the usual flower show and the president requested members to contribute generously towards the bring and buy stall. The competition, “a plate of eats without sugar.” was won by Mrs A. East, for fancy afternoon tea dainties, and Miss M. East, for plain wafers A vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames P. Anderson and J. Flower for acting as judges, and Mrs Biggs for donating the prizes: also to Mrs E. Westley for a further donation. After afternoon tea had been served the meeting terminated with the singing of “God Defend New Zealand.”
