GOLDEN BAY SOLDIERS HONOURED
SOCIAL EVENING AT MOT U PI PI ; Advantage was taken by the resi- ( dent of Motupipi to hold a social J . evening in honour of L/Cpl. Percy j ( Coppell when he was visiting his I , home recently. ] ; Cards and dancing were enjoyed j by the numerous residents who were present. In the card section the • winners were Mrs L. Hill 1, Mrs C. Robertson 2. and Mr A. Bruce 1. Mr M. Humphries 2. Master Eric Humphries won a special competition. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss S. Polglase and Mr M. Page. After the supper adjournment Mr K. Baird, on behalf of the Motupipi residents, called on the guest of the evening to accept a gift with the best ' wishes of everyone present. L/Cpl. Coppell replied, and thanked all present for their gift and good;' wishes. The music for the dancing was ; played by Mrs V. Page. DANCE AT HAMAMA During Private M. Bruning’s re-;: cent visit home, the Hamama School- | ; room was the scene of a bright dance! to which the residents of Hamama j: turned out in force to honour their I < soldier guest. After a dainty home- i made supper had been enjoyed. Mr j P. Gibbons presented Private Brun-j ning with a pocket wallet as a token j of the good-woll of Hamama dis-! trict. The guest suitably replied. \ The Monte Carlo Waltz was won' by Mrs P. Gibbons and Mr O. Six-, tus. Mr J. Sixtus piano), Messrs C.-J and H. Petterson (piano accordion and banjo) supplied the music. j SOCIAL EVENING AT UREWHENUA There was a very good attendance
of the residents of Urewhenua and Upper Takaka on the occasion of a social tendered to Private Lloyd Rosser. The evening was spent in games and dancing. In presenting Private Rosser with a gift, Mr N. Barnett voiced the esteem in which the residents of the district held their soldier guest. Alter musical honours had been accorded him, Private Rosser expressed his appreciation of the gift and good wishes. Mr G. Riordan played for the dancing. The evening closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Sync.*’ PERSONAL Miss M. Hull and Miss R. Wix, two visitors from Wellington, are at present spending a holiday cycling through Golden Bay.
