SLACKS NOT PERMITTED
AUCKLAND WOMEN TRAM CONDUCTORS Auckland, Aug. 31. A decision that women tram conductors continue to wear skirts and not slacks, as suggested by a board member. Mrs M. M. Dreaver. M.P., was made by the Auckland Transport Board. The secretary and manager, Mr A E. Ford, in a report, stated that it was j necessary to provide a uniform which would ensure maximum respect from all sections of the travelling public and the diversities of age, types and figures of women conductors necessitated a dress suitable to all. Points for consideration were the additional amount of cloth required and the incongruous appearance of outsize women wearing slacks for tramways work. The majority of women conductors were satisfied with the present uniform and recommended that it be adhered to. The manager’s report was adopted. Mrs Dreaver voting against.—P.A.
