DAY OF PRAYER
ARRANGEMENTS IN NELSON < 111 K< II AND MI NIl ItMI, SERVICES | In common with the rest of the Em j pire, Nelson will observe Thursday ; next ns a Dav of Prayer, at the request j of His Majesty the King. Most of the Nelson churches will be open all day for those who wish to attend for private prayer, with short services at convenient times during the day. At the Nelson Cathedral quarter hour services will be conducted. beginning from 8.40 o’clock, and at 7.15 in the evening the Bishop of Nelson will give a short address at a hall hour service. At. All Saints’ and St. Stephen’s, Tahunanui, similar arrangements have been made, the first service at the former church being al 7.30 o'clock in the morning. The day will be observed at St. Mary’s Church with the celebration of ! Mass at 6.45 o’clock and 9 o'clock m j the morning, and there will be special | devotions in the afternoon from 1.45 j till 4 o’clock. The Presbyterian Church has arrang- i : ed a service m First Church. Tahuna- | ■ nui. at 2.30 o’clock in the afternoon and j . another at Trinity Church at 7.30 p.m. j At St. John’s Methodist Church i short services will be conducted at convenient times during the clay. The Baptist Church will be open for 1 private prayer during the morning, and there will be a special meeting for women in the afternoon and a prayer meeting at night. At the Church of Christ at 7.30 p.m. a special service for prayer will Do ! held. In addition to the services which will ! be held in the various churches two short services of intercession will be held in the City Council Chambers, the first from 12.45 to 1 o'clock, and the j second from 2 o'clock to 2.15. These services will be conducted by members of the Nelson Ministers’ Association. These arrangements have been made for the convenience of people engaged in business who find it impossible to ! attend the church services. The de j puty Mayor, Mr >T. Hurst, in the absence of the Mayor, Mr E. R. Neale, has expressed the hope that those for whom the services have been arranged will take advantage of them. The deputy Mayor has also asked employers to, allow those employees who usually have their lunch hour from 12 o’clock to leave at 11.45. and 1 those who normally would return at 2 ! o’clock to return at 2.15. to enable them j to attend a service.

FACILITIES FOR WORKERS TO PARTICIPATE I <Rec. 10.15 a.m.) Rugby. Aug. 31 The Home Secretary, Mr Herbert Morrison, to-day reminded the j public that by the desire of the King, Thursday, which is the third anniversary of the outbreak of war, is to be observed as a national day of prayer and dedication. In connection with facilities which are being given to workers, members of the services and children to participate in a morning broadcast service from 11 to 11.15, the Government desires that work should cease as far as is practicable during this quarter hour.—B.O.W.
