COMMUNITY SINGS

SERIES TO BE HELD IN NELSON PRISONERS OF WAR PARCELS Representatives of Nelson business houses have decided to hold a series of community sings for the purpose of raising funds for prisoners of war parcels. The first sing will be held next week when the evening’s programme will be sponsored by the Nelson Combined Drapers. At the sings auctions will be held for the disposal of produce donated by citizens and time will be devoted to a mock court on each oc ci sion. However, only about half a dozen people will be fined each evening and no one in the audience will be “arrested.” The committee responsible for this patriotic effort has arranged for printed song books which will be sold at the door and will last for tie whole season. Combined sections of the business community and individual business houses will sponsor programmes, six offers having already been received by the committee. Gifts for auctioneering can be left at Mr C. Lipseombe’s shop in Bridge street.
