SERVICES APPRECIATED
PRESENTATION TO HON. W II Mclntyre, m.l.c. At the monthly meeting of the Buffer , • County Council, the chairman, Mr j James Ward, councillors and staff took \ ■ the opportunity of presenting Coun- • ! eillor Mclntyre with a solid leather I j suitcase, suitably inscribed, as a recog- i nition of his unbroken period of ser- j j vice of 27 years on the council (reports ! the “Westport News”). H Mr Ward, in making the presents- j lion, stated that it was usual to recognise the services of councillors after a r period of 25 years, but in Councillor Mclntyre’s ease he had given 27 years continued service. During that long i period he had rendered a wonderful service to the ratepayers and residents I of the Buffer County. His continual j . visits and presence in Wellington en- , abled him to carry out and complete urgent business in a very expeditious manner which was a source of great satisfaction to everybody concerned. [ Mr Mclntyre had served the interests of the district faithfully in other ca- , pacities, on the Licensing Bench, as . chairman of the Hospital Board, and ! . Nelson Education Board, and on the j ; Cawthron Institute. His help and kind- i ness so cheerfully rendered were ap- j ; predated by everybody in the Buffer, j ■ j Mr Ward sincerely hoped that Mr McIntyre would be long spared to con- j tinued his services to the council and as a member of the Legislative Coun- | cil. ! Councillors Powell. Doxvgray, Arch- | er. Jordan. Roberts and Messrs Schadj ick. Douglas and Blyth, of the council i staff, and Spencer (Press) spoke of Mr | Mclntyre's great service to the Buffer . district and his health was toasted to musical honours. Councillor Mclntyre said he was taken by surprise at the council’s hos- • pitable action in appreciating his services. He had done his best to serve the interests of the ratepayers throughout the whole county, and he owed his position as member of the Legislative Council to his early connections with tho Buffer County Council. There had been much progress in the past quarter of a century and he felt happy to be associated with such progress. If he hr 1 been of any particular service to the Council. Hospital Board and Education Board and to the residents of the Buffer then he derived the greatest pleasure from rendering such service. He thanked the councillors and staff for their fine gift and for the com pi imentary remarks.
