ABOLITION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE

DESIRE OF JAPANESE THE OCCUPIED AREAS Washington, Aug. 27. The Berne correspondent of the “New York Times” says that a Tokio despatch to the "Frankfurter Zeitung” discloses that the Japanese authorities are pressing for the abolition of the English language in occupied areas, including the Philippines and its replacement by Japanese which is proclaimed as the obligatory official language. To facilitate the process the Japanese language and grammar will be reformed by reducing the number of letters and also adopting a uniform system of writing from left to right.—P.A.
