At the conclusion of the programme the Mayor (Mr W. J. Eginton) who is chairman of the Patriotic Committee thanked all who had at any time assisted in what had proved one of the most successful community sing seasons held in Motueka. Last year the results of the Community Sing Committee’s effort was the raising of £3OO, and £376 had been raised this season, exclusive of the proceeds from the St. John Ambulance sing that evening. It was pleasing to know, the Mayor added, that the borough had reached its quota for the patriotic funds and he felt sure that by 30th September the quota would be exceeded by at least £2OO. He also felt confident that the provincial quota would be reached. Special thanks were extended by Mr Eginton to the song leader, Mr T. Simpson, to members of the Community Sing Committee, and to the various organisations and societies, which had so willingly co-operated to make the sings such a success. The Associated Banks on the previous week had created a provincial record for a community sing. Other organisations by means of dances, card evenings and sales throughout the winter months had rendered equal service. The public were also thanked for donations and generous support. Mr Simpson heartily thanked the public for the co-operation they had accorded him during the season.
