TAKAKA W.D.F.U.
AUGUST MEETING
At the monthly meeting of the Takaka branch of the W D.F.U. Mrs J. H. Small presided over a fair attendance. Two visitors were welcomed. The president gave a brief report fo the executive meeting held at Rockville on 11th August. A very enjoyable feature of the afternoon’s programme was an excellent display of handwork. Ten garments knitted by members, were handed In for the Air Force in the Nelson district, and 12s 6d was collected for soldiers’ parcels. A collection for the Leper Appeal was taken up and contributions to this worthy cause will be accepted at the September meeting. Mrs Martin gave a highly instructive and novel demonstration on how to make toy animals from fabric These articles would delight all children. Mrs Martin received a very warm vote of appreciation from the members. Competitions resulted as follows; Best bloom. Mrs F. HanflDrook 1 and 2; plate of scones, Mrs P Gibbons I. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs R. Mason and Mrs J. Page Jnr
