HINDERING ECONOMIC RECOVERY

GENEVA DISCUSSIONS EUROPEAN UNION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) GENEVA, 21st January. Tlie League of Nations Committee discussing a scheme for a European Union unanimously passed a resolution proposed by France, Britain, Italy, and Germany declaring that in view of European political difficulties, accentuated by economic instability due to worldwide depression, also tlie widespread anxiety increased by irresponsible talk concerning tlie possibility of war which was hindering tlie economic recovery, “the best service we can render to improve tlie economic position is a firm assurance of European peace. We, therefore, os responsible representatives of European States, declare that we are resolutely determined to use. tlie League machinery to prevent resort to violence.”

The committee also passed a resolution declaring tlie necessity for remedying tlie agricultural situation and not waiting until the Rome Wheat Conference, consequently urging an early meeting of tlie countries concerned to find means of disposing of the grain surplus. It is hoped exporting countries will participate in the conference. Other resolutions demanded means of disposing of future harvest surpluses and detailed a scheme of agricultural credits.
