Contrary to an earlier impression an authority in closer touch with Court circles expresses the opinion that the special flag for the Earl of Clarendon was devised to conciliate South Africa nationalist opinion, bearing in mind the bitter flag controversy three years ago. The authority states that it is an isolated case and not likely to be extended to other dominions, where no question of flags was recently raised.
