Overtaken by a squall in Vitilevu Bay, the Indian launch Sitaram, with 28 passengers, en route from Suva to Lautoka, capsized. Seven were drowned. ; Of the Indian passengers a few could • swim and clung to a raft and were rescued, by another launch which saw the disaster. Nineteen bags of letter and parcel mail from the Niagara’s cargo were lost in seventeen fathoms. _ The launch was licensed lor but 1/ passengers and is alleged to have exceeded the number. A police inquiry is proceeding. Three of the bodies have been recovered. 'The others are believed to be in the launch.
