THE DISMISSED WORKERS THANKS TO PROGRESS LEAGUE AND MR MOFFATT The Hon. H. Atmore, Minister for Education, has replied as follows to the resolution passed by a meeting of dismissed railway construction workers at Owen yesterday “Tour telegram just to hand. I immediately brought the matter before a joint meeting of Cabinet and the Unemployment Board. Am asking the ActingPrime Minister for immediate reply.” During the workers’ meeting it was resolved that the Nelson Progress League be thanked for the work it was doing to help the men. Special mention was made of Mr Moffatt for the time and trouble he had taken in trying to help the unemployed. Cheers were given for Mr Moffatt.
Mr G. C. Black has communicated the resolution passed by the railway workers on the Midland line yesterday to the Hon. E. A. Ransom, and has again stressed the necessity for immediate action to provide work for the men. At the request of the Nelson Progress League the member for Motueka has also telegraphed the Acting-Prime Minister asking that suitable arrangements be made for the Hon. G. W. Forbes to receive a deputation on the Midland railway .from the districts affected.
