EARTHQUAKE

MEXICAN TOWN DESTROYED BUILDINGS EVACUATED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MEXICO CITY, 14th January. The strongest earthquake for many years was felt on Wednesday night, shaking buildings for more than two minutes and darkening lights. All residents evacuated buildings amidst great confusion.

At least one was killed and four injured. THE DEATH ROLL FEARED TO BE HIGH (Received 16th January, 12.5 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, 15th January. Wireless reports to the Department of Communications to-day said that 25 were killed or injured at Oaxaca by an earthquake which rocked all Southern Mexico last night. The city itself looked as though it had been shelled for hours. Telegraphic communication is impossible. It is feared that the death roll is high.

Mexico City was shaken for four minutes. One was killed and 25 injured. Walls and houses were shaken down. Oaxaca advices say that it is impossible to describe the panic and confusion in the city, which is almost totally destroyed. RECORDED AT SYDNEY SYDNEY, 15th January. The observatory here and the Riverview seisomograph to-day at about noon recorded an earthquake of considerable dimensions about (1000 miles away. It is possible that it was the Mexican shake, the occurence of which has been cabled.
