CRICKET

WEST INDIES V. QUEENSLAND

HOME SIDE BEHIND ON FIRST INNINGS VISITORS LOSE 5 FOR 80 (United Press Association— By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) BRISBANE, 12th January. In the cricket match between the West Indies and Queensland, Queensland's opening was disastrous. Only one run was scored when Gough went, he just touching one from Constantine. Relisted saw the total go to twentyone, of which he made three. He was then beaten all the way by a fast low one. Adams, who was new to the Slate side, followed without further addition to the score, and Oxenliam went seven runs later. Constantine then had three wickets for three runs. Then Goodwin and Mossop stopped the rot. adding 01, but Macfarlane went without scoring at ninety. The batsmen up to this point had been rather unenterprising, there being many dull patches. Goodwill and Brew enlivened the proceedings somewhat adding f>9 for the seventh wicket, hut when they went the end came quickly. Goodwin’s stand was full of merit, being a mixture of aggression and defensive play. The West Indies start was also disastrous, Roach cutting Gilbert straight to Oxenliam at point before a run had been scored. Martin went at 20, giving Duncan a catch off Thurlow. Ten runs later Headley put his leg in front of a straight one, and Wight went in similai fashion without addition. Sealer and Huntc were associated in the dreariest partnership, which brought up fifty in 78 minutes. Hunte was out in the iast over of the day, the score then being 5 for 80.
