OBITUARY
MR E. D. REES (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail”) CHRISTCHURCH, 12th January. Mr E. D. Rees, who died last night at the age of 87 years, was well known in rowing circles as a capable builder of pleasure and racing boats. He was identified with the early days of rowing in Canterbury, and for many years took a keen interest in regattas. For about 60 years he conducted the rowing sheds on the Avon near Fitzgeralcr Avenue Bridge, and was for a long time caretaker of the Union and Canterbury Rowing Club’s sheds. In the building and repairing of boats he was recognised as being outstanding as a tradesman and the quality of his workmanship was wide ly known. One of his sons, Augustus Rees, has followed his father’s calling. Mr Rees was also well known as a breeder and exhibitor of fancy pigeons. Mr Angus McLean, of Bathhurst, New Brunswick, President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and a prominent lumberman, died to-day aged 70 years.
