TROUBLE AVOIDED
STEWARDS ON THE MONOWAI (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first saloon passengers aboard the Monowai, which arrived at Wellington from San Francisco, were at one stage of the Journey faced with the possibility of having to wait upon themselves at luncheon. A day out from Rarotonga a number of the stewards refused to assist in doing the saloon unless certain demands were complied with, but as the captain agreed to the requests the working of the saloon proceeded in the usual fashion. The trouble was primar Jy caused through a shortage of fresh water on the ship, stated to bo due in abnormal consumption, as a consequence of which the showers in the stewar Is quarters were turned off for about twelve hours of the day.
